Gossett was born in Ohio in 1888. He and his family moved to Canyon County, Idaho, in 1920, where they farmed. Gossett served in the Idaho legislature in 1933-1934. He was Lieutenant Governor in 1937-1939 and again in 1941-1943. He was elected Idaho's governor in 1944. When U. S. Senator John Thomas died in 1945, Gossett resigned as Governor in order to serve in the senate until 1947. From the description of Scrapbook, 1932-1955.
